Under the auspices of Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the 10th edition of Alam Al-Iktisaad Oman Forum facilitated a discussion and knowledge sharing on the Sultanate’s progress on promoting innovation, sustainable development and inclusive growth, building a diversified and competitive economy, and encouraging ESG adoption and creation of an empowered knowledge-based society, as per Oman Vision 2040 under the dynamic leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik.
In Oman Forum 2022, organised recently by United Media Services (UMS), Her Excellency Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research & Innovation, was the chief guest and keynote speaker. The Forum was also addressed by Sayyid Hamed bin Sultan al Busaidy, CEO of Oman Center for Governance and Sustainability and Eng. Abdul-Amir Al Ajmi, External Affairs and Value Creation Director, Petroleum Development Oman.
In a panel discussion, noted industry leaders including Abdullah bin Saeed Al-Hakmani, General Supervisor of the Technical Office for Program Management, Follow-up Unit for the Implementation of Oman Vision 2040; Eng. Khalil Al-Maawali, National Programme for Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Technologies, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology; Dawood Al Qassabi, New Business Development Manager, Petroleum Development Oman; Said Al Rashdi, CEO, Oman Manufacturers Association; Ali Hassan Moosa, CEO, Oman Banks Association and Othman Al Mandhari, Founder & CEO, InnoTech, discussed Oman’s progress on the path of transitioning to an innovation, technology and knowledge based society and economy. The panel discussion was moderated by Khalfan Al Rahbi, Editor-in-Chief of Alam Al-Iktisaad.
In a fireside chat, Sayyid Hamed bin Sultan al Busaidy and Majeda Al Mamari, Senior Head of ESG and Diversity & Inclusion, Muscat Stock Exchange discussed on Corporate ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) adoption to build future resilience. Saif Al Rawahi, AGM - Investment & Government Banking, Bank Nizwa; Maha bint Mohammed Al Balushi, Executive Director - Al Wadi Accelerator, Oman Technology Fund; Abdulrahman Al Hejji, CEO, Robotics & Artificial Intelligence Development; and Moosa Al Lawati, People and Culture Lead, eMushrif also presented case studies at the Forum.
Sustainability Leadership Awards, co-located at Oman Forum, honoured the private sector companies, public sector organisations and non-profit organisations with extraordinary accomplishments in areas of social, economic and environmental sustainability. The Public Service Sustainability Institution of the Year Award went to Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability. Petroleum Development Oman got two awards including the Overall Sustainability Leadership Award and the Leadership in Job Creation.
The Sustainability Leadership in Clean Energy Award was won by Shams Ad-Dhahira Generating Company. Ahlibank got the Leadership in Youth Development Award. The Sustainability Leadership in ICT went to Omantel. Bank Nizwa walked away with the Leadership in Sustainable Islamic Banking & Finance Award. The Leadership in Financial Investments Award was won by United Securities and the Sustainability Leadership in Manufacturing Award went to Oman Cables Industry.
