(OBA) organised its annual networking event, which brought together leaders and executives of the Sultanate’s banking industry, and senior officials from the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) and the Capital Market Authority (CMA), with the objective of enhancing the exchange of ideas and promoting open communication between the institutions.
At the event hosted at Crowne Plaza OCEC under the auspices of H.E. Tahir Salim Al Amri, The Executive President of Central Bank of Oman (CBO). The event was attended by H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Salim Al Salmi, Executive President of the Capital Market Authority, OBA’s Board of Directors, Bank CEOs, senior bankers and senior CBO officials. The objective of organising the forum was to create a platform for communication between the various banks operating in the Sultanate and Regulators.
In his opening address, Mr. Abdul Hakeem Omar Al Ojaili, Chairman of Oman Banks Association, pointed out that the banks in Oman serve as a focal point to contribute to the nation’s economy and support economic diversification and development projects. He stated that OBA has played an instrumental role in consolidating the position of the Sultanate and its reputation in the banking sector globally.
He also thanked the CBO for its commendable leadership in promoting financial and monetary stability in the country, and the CMA for providing guidance and support to the banking sector.
“The OBA serves as a unique platform that brings together leaders and officials in the banking sector to exchange ideas and collaborate to keep Oman’s banking system ahead of the market trends,” Mr. Al Ojaili said.
“Throughout 2023, OBA organised a diverse range of activities aimed at promoting professionalism and knowledge exchange among its members. These activities built strong bridges between banks, encouraging the sharing of expertise and successful experiences,” he emphasised.
The Chairman highlighted the fact that knowledge sharing between stakeholders has enhanced transparency and security standards in the Omani banking sector, and contributed to building public trust in financial institutions.
Oman Banks Association is a non-profit professional association created to represent the banking sector, to promote Omani banking activities, coordinate with the regulators on matters of policy and strategy, and to support banking excellence in Oman.
